The surgery suite is designed to respond to its Southern California location by maximizing the views of the ocean from the waiting room, and incorporating numerous translucent surfaces to optimize sun transmittance. The colors are deliberately cheerful and the furniture residentially casual to assuage nervous patients. The architectural language riffs on the beach culture and randomness of the existing structure, while maintaining a professional image for this emerging oral surgery practice. The suite contains two consultation rooms, four surgery rooms, a recovery area, a private doctors’ office, administrative offices, and instrument room; all arranged in a circular circulation system to maximize efficiency.
