Pole Residence
Loved the location for 20 years, but it was time for a refresh.

Our clients loved the size of their house and the wooded hillside location. However, the twenty-year-old suburban aesthetics needed a refresh. This complete remodel transformed the house into to a light-filled, open-plan jewel-box that now delights and matches the clients’ more modern sensibility. The focus of this project was to improve the quality of the space, not the quantity, allowing higher-grade materials while remaining budget-conscious.

The three bedrooms remained in their original location. The walls between the family, kitchen, living and dining were removed to create a cascading great room, paving way for panoramic hill views that were previously blocked by a fireplace and closed-off floor plan.

New sliding doors that open to the existing pool terrace, and a dramatic linear skylight that traces a former central hallway, floods the interiors with daylight. A painted, rustic-wood wall distinguishes the private areas (bedrooms and study) from the public while adding textural interest.  The exterior of the house utilizes a restrained palette with natural wood soffits and generous windows blending the house into its wooded site for an updated Larkspur vibe.
