CRISTIAN MATEI

PROJECT MANAGER

Experience
Cristian tries to give people a different point of view on how they look at their surroundings and capture the essence of their interactions. He approaches architecture as an expression of form and function, designing practical, attractive spaces.

Bringing 20+ years of experience, Cristian joined JLA in 2019 to pursue his interest in architectural design. Originally from Bucharest, Romania in 2005, he moved to Monterey, California and worked through a wide spectrum of custom single family projects. Seeking different design experiences, Cristian moved to Bay Area in 2014, and continued his work on custom homes, residential projects, and corporate interiors. Life outside of the studio is shared with his daughter and wife and consumed with lot of winter trips to the slopes, or exploring the City offerings.

People who build their own home tend to be very courageous. These people are curious about life. They’re thinking about what it means to live in a house, rather than just buying a commodity and making it work.” – Tom Kundig

I’m inspired by Tom Kundig, Gaudi, Tadao Ando, and Jean Novel and numerous art installations.
