Worker housing and agricultural co-op
For years, dozens of agricultural workers and their families had been living on Tacherra Ranch in substandard conditions – basically, these essential workers were living in sheds and storage containers without running water or sewer. The site had been red-tagged by the County of Marin for numerous code violations; however, due to the overwhelming need for worker housing, the site was not condemned.
To alleviate these dire conditions, the BCLT, local Bolinas community, and the County provided emergency funding for a temporary RV park for these roughly 60 people, along with a plan to create permanent housing.
Ultimately, the County wants to establish an agricultural coop and build six modular family homes for these workers, as allowed by the Williamson Act. The plans calls for four individual 2-bedroom suites with a common kitchen, and two 2-bedroom units. The plan also entails a shared dry storage barn, community kitchen, and gathering room, as well as a tractor repair and workshop building. Moreover, the project is proposing a daycare facility that would service the entire community.
Currently, the project is aggregating funding.
