Mill Valley Renovation
Adding natural light without significantly modifying the exterior.

We were tapped by a family of six to make their Mill Valley home more livable.
Their spec-level home, with wraparound covered porch, needed an overhaul. Dimly lit interiors, poor circulation, and a front entrance that was rarely used, created moments of chaos. To add to the disorganization, there was no mudroom, leaving the garage to become the de facto front entrance where shoes and toys piled up.
To rectify, we completely gutted the first floor. We enclosed the front porch to create a welcoming entrance and spacious mud room, and combined the living and dining rooms into a cozy sitting area. To maximize functionality and a sense of play, a pool table cleverly converts into a dining table for formal gatherings. In the rear, we opened the kitchen to the expanded family room and added a wall of folding doors to give easy access to the much-used rear yard. A glassed-enclosed breakfast nook anchors one end, a playful mural for dart throwing, the other, with multiple seating arrangements in between. Upstairs, we left bedrooms intact except for the primary suite, which we remodeled with a new steam shower and finishes.
A new ADU with private study and a bedroom suite for the eldest, who craved privacy, provides a place of respite.
