ACHTENBERG RESIDENCE REMODEL
This Victorian-era house was completely remodeled to reflect the client's love of Asiatic design as well as the desire to create a calm and peaceful environment that would showcase the existing furnishings and far-eastern art.
Reflecting this combining of east and west design, the kitchen was reorganized around a large cooking island clad in flame-cut black granite. Tansu-inspired, straight-grain Douglas fir cabinetry rise majestically behind, centering around a new view window of Twin Peaks, while a pantry/ laundry area is cleverly hidden inside of a box clad in a tatami-like reed wall covering. The adjacent breakfast room was expanded, opening up additional garden views.
The dining room and sunroom were reconstructed with new finishes; a dramatic shoji-inspired skylight creates a secondary sitting area off of the formal living room.
The project scope also included reconstruction of the exterior of the house with new windows, entry stairs, decks, and landscaping.
